Picture Of Memories Picture of Memories Everyone has that certain picture hanging on the wall that brings back memories. The picture on my wall that brings the most memories is of my great grandmother. The picture is of my grandmother Lois who is 92 on Christmas day, in her favorite recliner. In the picturing she shows no sign of her age, the recliner that she loves, and her friendly smile which spreads joy throughout the family. My grandmother is 92 years old and still in really good physical condition. In this picture her face looks as smooth as silk like there is no wrinkles. Her white hair never looked whiter as she sits resting in her chair. When I look at the picture Stars glistening in the night sky is what first comes to mind when I see my grandmas blue eyes sparkling. It makes her look nothing like her age. The Picture also shows my grandmas favorite recliner. The recliner was bought by all of the family as a gift. It a big soft lazy-boy. When you sit in this chair you just instantly become comfortable and feel like falling asleep. The big plush cushions make it really soft and relaxing. When you sit in it you feel like your sitting in a dove filled bed. My grandma says it helps her back and just gives her somewhere to sit comfortably. She says its the best gift she has every received and will cherish it always. Finally in the picture my grandmother is showing her warming smile. She has always had the sweetest smile, which would make you feel all warm inside. It was one of those things you could depend on; was that when you saw my grandmas smile you would cheer up no matter how bad of a day you were having. However if you did something wrong her smile would turn to a stern face and you knew she was serious. But my grandmother was mostly smiling and that made the family happy because we know shes in good spirits then. They say pictures are worth a thousand words and its the truth. Pictures capture memories that will last you a lifetime. Without pictures people couldnt look back on moments like I get to when I look at the picture of my grandmother on the wall. Everyone in life should take pictures and save them to look at forever, because you never know when you might get that Kodak moment again. Creative Writing

Common Rider essays Music has many uses, it can be used as a means to pass on an idea, it can be a tool for the artist to show the world their lives, but for some, music aint nothing but expression of joy, when the train hits youre gonna feel it, and I believe that truer words were never spoken. Those lyrics come from a band by the name of Common Rider. Common Rider is the creation of Jesse Michaels, the front man of the late 1980s punk band Operation Ivy. As the lyricist for Op Ivy, as they were known to their fans, Michaels wrote lyrics about the world he saw around him. While it wasnt always a pretty picture, the songs were true to his feelings and thats all that matters. With Common Rider he was able to continue the same message. The songs that were composed for Common Rider were released on two full length CDs and one four track demo. The entire anthology is full of songs meant to inspire people but Ive chosen four of their best songs to analyze. Common Riders 1999 release Last Wave Rockers starts off with the song Classics of Love. This song begins with a relatively slow upbeat strumming on an acoustic guitar, which is not a very uncommon occurrence in modern music. Its the lyrics that are sung that make this song stand out. Cause I'm in a world of my own When I'm into it I dont want anything else And nothing can bother me when I'm inside of it Cause I'm inside of myself. This song is about Michaels favorite musical artists; their songs, the Classics of Love, will always be there for him to make a dark day light. Lyrically this is easily one of the best songs Ive ever heard. It brings together verses that are very complex with a chorus that is technically simple but has a feeling not at all common. I know those songs gonna last forever The song ends with Michaels telling how much the music means to...

Student Misconceptions in Secondary Science - Dissertation Example This topic is significant as it connects research to practice. The paper interviews 9 science teachers from three different high schools, and observes two of them in class while introducing a new concept. The research found that there exists a considerable alignment between research and practice with quite a considerable number of teachers employing researched recommendations to deal with student misconceptions. This is despite the fact that in comparison not many teachers have extensive knowledge of research report recommendations. Introduction When teachers instruct students on various concepts from a wide array of subjects, they often encounter students who already have their own preconceived ideas about the theories and concepts on how things work. This is more so in science subjects where children get to understand various aspects of science in their own ways before they are taught on such concepts. For instance some science students before being taught about the galaxy may think that the earth is the biggest planet there is and exists on its own, or they may think that the moon has its own light, or that it is the sun that moves around the earth rather the earth since they can see the sun move and not feel the earth tilt. Indeed research shows that when students come to class to learn they often have their own prior rich knowledge on how science works based on their own experiences, peer interactions, and also based on some science knowledge they have attained or the based on erroneous concepts taught by previous instructors (Yip, 1999:207; Bulunuz, Jarrett, & Bulunuz, 2008:32-33). Such prior knowledge or preconceptions may impact positive or negatively the learning process of a student. Guzzetti (2000:89) in her research report supports this impact by noting that that prior conceptions has on learning experiences by noting that students who hold prior views concerning a given concept do not easily give up these notions. This implies that breaking down misconceptions held by students so as to build correct is noted as one the toughest parts in teaching students of all ages. A mass body of knowledge in research has been dedicated in studying various science misconceptions held by students and recommendations passed forward on how teachers can deal with such misconceptions in order to ensure effective knowledge transfer to the students (Bulunuz, Jarrett, & Bulunuz, 2008; Guzzetti, 2000; Yip, 1998). No known study to the author though has so far reviewed and analysed how the use of such recommendations have been in class, or the degree to which such recommendations put down in research are adopted by secondary school teachers in dealing with misconceptions in science subjects. This research report seeks to cover this gap in knowledge and investigate by how far research meets practise by seeking to answer the research question: how well do science teachers us e research recommendations to deal with student misconceptions in science? Literature Review Student Science Misconceptions Guest (2003:2) defines student misconceptions as student’s viewpoints that are different from the conventionally known science knowledge where such beliefs are as a result of previous experience. Others such as Bulnuz, Jarret and Bulunuz (2008:32) and Thompson and Logue (2006:553) view student misconceptions as ideas that provide a crooked and incorrect way to understand about scientific concepts and which may be as a result of personal experiences, everyday language, media or even incorrect instructional material or incorrect ideas from some instructors. These misconceptions are often deep-rooted and tend to be difficult to change (Thompson and Logue, 2006; Guest, 2003: Chi, 2005).

Examples Of Acute Injuries Health And Social Care Essay To be fit and healthy it is important that you exercise, however, exercise too much and you could injure yourself. This can be caused by; An accident while training Insufficient equipment Pushing yourself too hard Not warming up properly Sports injuries can be classed into two categories; Acute injury Overuse injury An acute injury is on in which there is rapid onset of pain is resulting from an incident that has been traumatic for example, an injury. It is normally impact on a specific part of the body. Examples of acute injuries are; Sprains are injuries to ligaments by stretching them too far or by being torn. Ligaments are fibrous tissue which holds bones together as well as to keep your body in position preventing any unwanted movements. Examples of ligaments are; the calcaneoifbular ligament in the ankle which is the damaged ligament in the picture on the right. A sprain is an injury to a muscle or to a tendon. Muscles move your skeleton and this in turn pulls on a tendon which is connected to a bone. Both can be stretched but if they are stretched to far it can cause a tear in it. A contusion or bruise in common terms, is one of the most common sports injuries. These occur when a blood vessel underneath the skin ruptures due to compressive force to a muscle. Blood then leaks into the dermis layer of the skin, causing discoloration. This can also occur to organs. Dislocation is the separation of two bones at their meeting joint due to sudden force to the joint; this is clearly shown by the picture on the left. Therefore, the bone is no longer in its normal position. Dislocation can cause damage to the tissues surrounding the bone as well as any ligaments attached to the bone. Damage can also be done to the blood vessels and nerves. A fracture is a condition where the bone has broken or when there is a crack present in the bone. These occur due to high force or stress on the bone. Fractures can occur in any bone in the human body, however, bones can normally withstand most impacts and it is only if the force is too much it fractures. There are several different classes which fractures can be classed into; all are identified on the right. Closed/Simple fracture is when the bone is only damaged and there has been no damage done to the tissue or skin surrounding the bone. Compound/Open fracture is when the skin or tissue surrounding the fracture has been damaged. There is a higher risk of infection with this type due to the damage to the skin. Overuse injuries are those that are caused by recurring actions which damage tendons, ligaments, muscles and tissues in the same place over a period of time. Common overuse injuries are; Tennis elbow is due to injury of both the muscle and tendon on the outside of the radius and ulna, or more specifically the lateral epicondyle. It is caused my overuse of the forearm muscles resulting in pain. It is most common in tennis players; however, you do not need to be a tennis play to get this. Golfers elbow is a similar condition to tennis elbow, only this condition affects the muscle and tendons on the inside of the arm. Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is caused by repetitive trauma to the Iliotibial band which is present in legs and runs along the outside of the thigh which keeps the knee in place as it flexes and extends. ITBS is the overuse of this band resulting in pain specifically during running and inflammation of the iliotibial band. A Shin splint occur when there is a recurring and a large amount of exercise being done. This puts large amounts of pressure onto the leg which can cause injury to the bone and tissue that surrounds it. Shin splints can also be where small tears develop in the interosseous membrane in the leg or tiny fractures develop on the surface of the tibia. Sports injuries are very common. One of which is a broken leg, this happened to American football wide receiver Tyrone Prothro who played for the University of Alabama between 2003 and 2005. On 1st October 2005, during a game versus the Florida Gators, Prothro went for a touchdown pass and got hit in the air and the way he landed on the ground he fractured both the tibia and fibula. Since the leg is deformed, this would be classed as a severe tibia and fibula fracture resulting in the inability to stand and walk as well as weakness in both the leg and foot. Damage was more than likely done to the surrounding tissue, nerves and blood vessels. First aid First aid is very important when it comes to an injured person. There are a number of rules in which you can follow; DR ABC is a mnemonic which is used soon after someone got injured; Danger Check the area and make sure you and the people around you are safe, especially the injured person. Response Can the injured person hear you? Can they open and close their eyes? Any movements? Response to touch? Airway Is there a blockage in the throat or have they swallowed their tongue? Is the head in a suitable position to allow breathing? Care should be taken not to make anything worse but the airway must be cleared if it is blocked. Breathing Can the injured person breathe clearly? Circulation Is there a pulse? Is the pulse weak / strong / racing R.I.C.E is another mnemonic that is used for tissue injuries; Rest This is important for repairing the body as without it more strain would be placed on the injured area leading to more injury. Ice Ice is perfect for reducing inflammation and any pain caused. It is recommended that you ice for 20 minutes and then no ice for 20 minutes. This can reduce the chance of getting frostbite, as well as wrapping the ice in a towel before placing it on the injured area. If you use the ice for too long, this can prolong the repairing time as it will restrict the blood flow to the area, which can reduce the nutrients getting the tissues of the injured area. Compression Compression is used to reduce the swelling that is from inflammation but everyone does get some swelling. For this an elastic bandage is better as it does not restrict the blood flow as is not to be too tight. Elevation ­ Elevation is good at reducing swelling by the higher amount of blood which returns to the systemic circulation. This break is easy to diagnose by the use of modern imaging techniques; X-rays CT scan MRI scan Bone scan Extremity ultrasound However, in Tyrone Prothro circumstances, he was given an X-ray as this was the fastest technique to use and is the least expensive. X-rays are high photon energy electromagnetic radiation which can be used in both diagnosis and therapy. As the rays pass thought the body, the photons present in your body are absorbed at different rates; this is what produces the image. The materials in your body which are dense, like bone, show up as white areas on the image. The parts of your body which are made of softer material, like muscles and organs, show up as darker areas. X-rays can be dangerous if the does given is too much for the body, however, medical x-rays are normally are a very small dose level, meaning the chance of radiation damage to your body is small. Due to the way in which Tyrone Prothro fractured his tibia and fibula, surgery had to be the option due to being the quickest option as without it, it would take years to heal or might never heal and will constantly be in pain. He had to get three separate surgeries due to the damage done to the tissue, nerve and blood vessel damage. The doctors put an intramedullary rod in his leg which will align the leg and help to fix the fracture. The IM rod was inserted into the interior of the bones, where the bone marrow is present. This is the best way to help heal the broken tibia and fibula as it does not support the bone; instead it shares the load with the bone. Rehabilitation of the broken tibia and fibula would be used to restore the function of the limb, as best as possible and to reduce the discomfort the patient is in. The patient may need the use of crutches, depending on the weight bearing position. The doctor may also decide if Tyrone would need the use of an orthopaedic cast, which means the leg would be covered by plaster to create a shell type casing. This is to reduce the movement the injured limb to do which will decrease the healing time. Once the cast has been removed, the patient will have to visit a physiotherapist to regain strength and range of motion in the leg. However, it will never be the same as what he had before the injury. Both the tibia and fibula may start to heal within 6 to 16 weeks of the injury, but the capability of the bone to sustain a heavy load could take up to a year, meaning the injured may be is some sort of discomfort until then. Due to the damage that was done and his leg never fully recovering, meaning he was advised never to play football again, his career finished. Physiotherapy helps to restore the function and movement in any part of the body where the human has been effect by a disability, illness or injury. This is normally done through movement, exercise and education. The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS), state that there are 8 credible types of physiotherapy; Sports This has to be the most common type of physiotherapy, being used every day. It is the management of injuries for all types of athletes, amateur to Olympian. It involves the treatment and healing of injuries. Orthopedic This type helps to identify and care for injuries or disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Pediatric This type is all about improving coordination and balance within a human as well as their motor skills. It can also be used to focus on strength and endurance. Humans with conditions such as, spina bifida and cerebral palsy. Normally this is used on children and adolescents. Cardiovascular and Pulmonary This is for the treatment of humans with cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders, as well as those who have had cardiac or pulmonary surgery such as, bypass surgery. This is used in humans with the following disorders; pulmonary fibrosis, CORD (Chronic Obstructive Respiratory Disease), heart attacks. Geriatric This type of physiotherapy is for the vast amount of conditions that affect humans as they grow old and therefore would only be practiced on the elderly. A few examples of the conditions are as follows; Alzheimers disease, cancer, arthritis and osteoporosis. Neurological This type is practiced on those with a neurological disorder such as, Alzheimers disease, cerebral palsy, Parkinsons disease and motor neurone disease Clinical electrophysiology This type normally is used with electrophysiological evaluation where an EMG (electromyography) is used. Integumentary This is used as a treatment for skin and organ conditions like burns and wounds. University level Physiotherapy is degree based career, meaning you have to go through university if you wish to become a physiotherapist. University of Ulster is the only university in Northern Ireland to offer a degree, specifically, a BSc Hons in physiotherapy. The university states that applicants must; Hold a GCSE pass in English Language at Grade C or above (or equivalent).   You must also have obtained a GCSE pass in Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent). A level Grades BBB to include one science subject from Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics or Double Award Applied Science  (with a BB in Double Award Applied Science). If one does not want to go on to do a postgraduate degree then it is possible to go into the world of work, the possibilities are endless with physiotherapy due to the vast amounts of sports played in the world or any other types of physiotherapy (ABPTS) are needed on a daily basis. NHS vs. Private Care There are various jobs available on the NHS (National Health Service) and private practitioners, both of which are highly regarded. With the NHS based jobs, they would be working in a hospital environment and are needed in most of the departments; Outpatients Intensive care Womens health Care of the elderly Stroke patients Orthopedics Mental illness Learning difficulties Occupational health Terminally ill Pediatrics This means that they will constantly be on the clocked and needed for various things. Physiotherapists do not just work in the hospital surrounding; they would work in various environments; Industry Special schools The private sector (for example, private practice) Education Leisure sport For physiotherapists that are in the private sector would work in the same principles as those on the NHS, however, the private section physios will have to be paid for. There are three bands for physiotherapists on the NHS, all have a different salary;  £21,176  £27,534 (band 5)  £25,472  £34,189 for specialist physiotherapists (band 6)  £30,460  £40,157 for advanced physiotherapists (band 7) The physiotherapists that work in the private sector will generally have the same salary as those on the NHS. With the thousands of poems depicting the game of baseball and its remarkable players, coming across a poem seeking thorough cross sectioning of the crowd is unusual, and rarely encountered. William Carlos Williams has created a poem which portrays the crowd as a quasi-organized mob bent on either cheering for their team, or in turn, booing them. The reason why Williams does this is because he is portraying, in a sense, simplicity versus chaos with simplicity being the game of baseball itself and chaos being the crowd.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The game of baseball is simple and to the point. One throws the ball, fields the ball and uses a bat to hit the ball. The crowd however is complex with many fields acting upon it. Emotions and the vast consumption of alcoholic beverages turn the crowd into a dangerous mob. With references to stanza’s ten and eleven, it tells of how the Jew and the flashy female understand what is happening as emotions increase. Stanza ten refers to sexual assault and stanza eleven refers to the genocidal attempt by Hitler and his Nazi regime.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Williams tells of how the crowd acts and moves as one. He refers to these people which make up the crowd as drones, completely and uninterruptedly tuned into what is happening on the diamond. Williams believes this to be beautiful, for even in its chaos, there is a sense of uniformity. He also tells of how the crowd is drawn to the game for its exciting chase. If the society as a whole is not present to impose the overall sameness on its members, the separate inhabitants of Marinara do have efferent natures, interests, and groups, each composed of specific members from the original society. Contrastingly, the story hardly mentions at all the supposedly the actual goal of the excursion, the picnic itself. The people of the overall community of Marinara split themselves into various smaller subgroups such as â€Å"boys under thirteen and girls over nineteen†. Back in the mainland town the residents of Marinara may act as if they all are a unified society regarding age or gender, but here the author makes it obvious that is not so.People of Marinara physically do split themselves into smaller vigorous within the original residents of Marinara group, and but subconsciously they stick to their subgroups regardless of what they consciously believe. As the routine of their lives seems to break down because of the boating accident, the society of Marinara begins to transform at last.This transformation changes the residents of the town into a panicked and unrecognized crowd which makes it worsens the situation. The narrator begins to weaken under the pressure and lack of social order into nothingness, because of the absence of a real inter town society; there is nothing to hold the people together. To make matters worse, as the people on Mari nara Belle encounter their fellow-citizens ashore, the panic spreads from the boat back to the town and they practically lose heir heads. They start rowing all over the lake, seeking safety on Marinara Belle, forgetting that they were initially safe and but came to rescue the people on the steamer bringing even more absurdity into the situation.

A couple of examples are cliques or groups that we have everywhere. Such as in school, at work, at home and around our lives. In Anthem there are groups of jobs such as doctor, street sweeper, and teacher. We have jobs and we refer ourselves by our rank in that job. In Anthem their society they are taught to think as many and not as an individual. We teach young children to share and to be good to the group and that the good of the group comes before the good of one. For example, we tell kids to help an old lady cross the street. That isnt looking out for yourself. However, this may not necessarily be a bad thing though it is in a certain context such as in Anthems society. Our society is not at all perfect, but perfection cannot become so without conformity.

While this was laudable, it had a negative effect since most of the cabinet members were rich people who only wanted to protect their interests without being concerned on how it affected the common person. However, Jackson knew that if people were to believe that he had their best interests at heart then he had to have advisers who were closer to the peop le. 3 When he first ascended to the presidency, numerous sectional issues that had not been addressed by previous presidents existed. Many states from the South were of the opinion that they needed to retain most of their rights. However, Jackson felt that if America was to prosper then there was need to ensure that all the states were reading from the same script. Since most of the states were complaining of tariffs, he introduced a moderate tariff that was supposed to apply in all the states. Despite his good intentions, South Carolina wanted to nullify the tariff and declare it unconstitutional. However, Jackson stood his ground and forced South Carolina to adhere to the tariffs. In 1832, Jackson used his immense power to veto a charter for the Second Bank of America. Although the government claimed that the bank could lead to more investments, Jackson saw it as a mere strategy by the wealthy to increase their wealth at the expense of the poor. This forced the government to save their money in the existing banks, which then loaned it to the ordinary people. Although this would pose problems later on, it solved the problem and this led people to believe him even the more. Jackson’s intention was well intended and it coincided with his nature of putting the interest of the people first.5 In 1830, Jackson showed another side of his caring nature when he supported the expulsion of Indians from Georgia. Although the act made him to be chastised by the West, his only consolation was that he had the support of the people. To support his actions, Jackson invoked the Indian Removal Act that had been passed in 1830. However, the American Supreme Court had passed a ruling preventing the government from expelling them but Jackson disregarded the ruling. In what later came to be known  as the Trail of Tears, government troops led close to 15,000 Indians from Georgia to their ancestral land. Indeed, a president who is ready to risk losing support from his peer countries and even disregards a court decision to support the wishes of the masses is nothing but a man of the people.6 After retiring from active politics in 1836, Jackson maintained a lively interest in national politics. In order to ensure that he was not locked from national politics and from making decisions touching on the common person, Jackson had handpicked Martin Van Buren as his successor. Buren’s election ensured that Jackson would remain in the limelight and influence major decisions. In fact, it is believed that Andrew Jackson was a major figure in white House until the time of his death on June 8, 1845. In the years before his death, Jackson prevented the reintroduction of the Second Bank of the United States Charter, which he believed would oppress the ordinary Americans. Although there are many explanations for Jackson’s interest in ordinary citizens, it is believed that his poor upbringing made him close to them. Once he ascended to the presidency, he did anything possible to ensure that they were free from oppression by the political elite.7 Conclusion Andrew Jackson is considered as one of the greatest American presidents in history. To begin with, he was the first President in the U.S to come from a poor background. Having been orphaned from a young age, Jackson had to overcome many  odds to become the American president. After spending many years with ordinary  citizens, Jackson felt closer to them and he constantly fought for their rights when he became president. On more than one occasion, Jackson risked losing the support of the States and that of other nations to fight for causes that he believed would help the poor. Even after his two terms had expired, Jackson worked behind the scenes to ensure that the bills he had blocked were not reintroduced.
